Roca bathrooms at the Eiffel Tower, a red tribute to the symbol of Paris

The monument built by Gustave Eiffel is still the symbol of France and a tourist attraction with over 7 million visitors every year.

57 metres above the Champs de Mars, inside the most famous wrought iron framework in the world, we find two of the most fabulous spaces of the renovated Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel and Ferrié pavilions are an ensemble of metal and vertiginous translucent glass floors created by the prestigious architectural firm Moatti-Rivière.

Eiffel Tower in Paris

Reopened in 2013, the first renovation work of the ultimate Parisian symbol in the last 30 years involved Roca´s innovation to provide personality and a commitment to durability and the environment in its bathroom spaces. By combining some of our symbolic pieces and collections, the project became at a very early stage one of the most important renovations of the last decade, resulting in a combination of contemporary design and energy efficiency. We tell you some of the keys.

Conceived for private use, the Eiffel pavilion, on the first floor, has a conference room with capacity for 300 people and was the first space in the tower to use the entire range of Roca products, from the vitreous china to the faucets, installation systems and operating plates. Arranged in a space with walls in bright Venetian red, the white colour of the Roca urinals, toilets and basins contrasts with the striking hue of the wall, which once was the original one in the entire tower. Finding inspiration in this unknown piece of information for many visitors, the architect in charge of the project, Alain Moatti, chose the Amberes basin and the Meridian toilet in its wall-hung version to create a contrast between curved and straight lines, paying his personal tribute in a dialogue between the red and the white colour.

Featuring two heights and with the aim of integrating the visitor, the Ferrié pavilion, offers a small commercial area, restaurants, a screening room and an open air exhibition with different rest areas. Its open access for all visitors presented a challenge when designing the bathroom spaces, as they had to comply with the most demanding durability and resistance. Here, Moatti chose a special edition combining some of Roca´s contemporary collections. The Diverta basin, the Site urinal and again the Meridian toilet in its wall-hung version were designed in a striking red colour to pay tribute to Gustave Eiffel´s original design of his mythical tower, the symbol of the 1889 Universal Exposition.

With over 7 million visitors every year, the fact of participating in such an important project not only meant the final recognition to Roca´s role in the world of design applied to bathroom spaces, it also confirmed its position as one of the reference brands in quality, safety and sustainability in vitreous china, accessories and faucets.

As expected in such an outstanding project, all Roca products selected by Moatti-Rivière for the Eiffel Tower meet the most demanding norms in terms of accessibility and environmental impact. This was a sine qua non to be a part of the renovation project that adapted one of the most visited monuments in the world to the needs of the 21st century.
