The company will promote a global debate on access to housing organized by the 2022 UIA International Forum “Affordable Housing Activation: Removing Barriers” -AHA-.

Roca is now the official sponsor of the UIA 2022 International Forum “Affordable Housing Activation: Removing Barriers” and joins the global debate aimed at promoting a collaborative and innovative framework in the area of housing, involving internationally renowned experts from different disciplines.

Starting in March, Roca will also be organizing seven AHA events which will host international speakers at the company’s iconic Roca Galleries in Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, London, Shanghai and Beijing.

For Marta Vall-llossera, acting Chair of the Higher Council of Architects Associations in Spain (CSCAE), “this Forum is a tool allowing architects, companies and public authorities to take responsibility for promoting actions aimed at transforming our cities and territories and facilitating access to housing. Roca's sponsorship, which will boost the international impact of the debate with the organization of seven AHA events, is great news in terms of raising awareness on the right to decent and adequate housing together with environmental, economic and social sustainability”.

Angela Balldellou, Executive Director of the AHA Forum, noted, “we are pleased that a company with Roca's track record is joining the debate promoted by the UIA Forum on affordable housing. Roca's contribution will help increase the international impact of the Forum, which aims to raise awareness about the need to include in this debate issues such as quality, design, innovation, access to services and basic infrastructures as well as sustainability, without which we wouldn’t be talking about decent and adequate housing”.

Xavier Torras, Roca’s Communications Director, added, “we must promote meetings and initiatives to discuss far-reaching issues for our society, such as access to decent housing. It is a privilege to be able to collaborate in furthering this debate and to contribute to it by hosting conferences throughout our network of Roca Galleries around the world”.

A high-impact global movement

The 2022 UIA International Forum, a hugely prominent international event, aims to contribute to improving access to affordable, decent and adequate housing around the world, through the generation of global networks and alliances that promote shared knowledge of success stories.

It proposes architectural and urban planning solutions capable of breaking down the barriers, involving all agents with the ability to establish long-term guidelines in order to help achieve, from the perspective of housing, the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

All this in an event that brings together international experts from the fields of architecture, governance, energy, engineering, economics, urban planning, the environment, sociology, design, technology and innovation.

An event with widespread institutional support

The General Assembly of the International Union of Architects (UIA), held at the Baku Forum on 11 June 2019, approved, through a large majority, the choice of Madrid as the host city of the 2022 UIA International Forum on affordable housing. This event has the backing of the Spanish Government, through the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council, as well as the support of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Support from the professional structure in Madrid is guaranteed through the COAM and from the building sector thanks to the 2030 Observatory of the CSCAE, which brings together all the agents involved in the design of cities in Spain.
